Generate Content that Generates Links

by Daphne on June 16, 2010

When working with freelance writers, video producers or if you do it on your own, make incoming links your top priority. You want as many people as possible to link to your content, and share it all around the web. That’s the best use of social media marketing, and those who master the art of link baiting are very successful online marketers.

What is Link Baiting

If you’re new to social media marketing, you’re probably wondering what link baiting is. It’s a term that’s often thrown around with the expectation that everyone should know what it is.  Link baiting refers to content that’s linked to and shared by others. The content is interesting, controversial or informative, which makes bloggers and websites link to it as a benefit to their audience. You should use link baiting strategies on social media channels to generate more links to your website, which can lead to an increase in web traffic.

Great ideas.

Here is one way I make that happen.

I create a niche related eBook like “Understanding (SEO) Search Engine Optimization” and then look for writers on the topic of SEO on popular article directories. I tell them that they can share the eBook with their audiences and even charge for it if they like while keeping the entire proceeds for themselves.

Within the eBook I provide valuable niche related coupons and direct link references back to my own content.

CAUTION: Don’t over do it or you’ll be less likely to get people who are willing to partner with you.

Great tips! I actually think that attracting other websites to link to you through your contents is better than asking them directly to put a link of your blog on their website. Come on, you don’t want to be too desperate, right?

Thanks for sharing.
