authorize.net down due to fire – ruins ecommerce sales

by bosmol on July 3, 2009

This morning tens of thousands of ecommerce retailers awoke to see that their credit card processing company (authorize.net) went down due to a fire in the Seattle office.

Unfortunately, going down means no credit cards can be processed by many merchants who rely on authorize.net for their sales. This shows you that you should always have a back-up plan ready to go, such as PayPal or Google Checkout. This can save you thousands of dollars in headaches.

I personally witnessed a company lose hundreds of orders and receive tons of phone calls from irate customers vowing to never shop at this ecommerce site again.

When will the site be back up? It’s been 10 hours so far and still no word of any expected recovery time. Hopefully, this will be resolved and everyone can process the orders they have been hand writing down for the past ten hours.

Hopefully someone in the internet marketing department can resolve this problem in a timely manner.

SEO in not when you're done you can leave it behind. It needs a regular schedule of updating and link building.

Well I totally agree with the author, we should always have a back-up for the emergencies like that, otherwise potential loss of customers and loss of time will result in the decrease of sale volume tremendously. I personally recommend PayPal. It is a good option for emergency back-up, if you are not using it for primary payment mode.

I feel very sad for credit card processing company [authorize.net].

when the matter is about money you should be very careful about its record & all the data. For that it is very necessary to have its backup in the form of hard copies as well as soft copies.

I personally deals with the Debt Management Company ( http://www.debt-managements.net ) & we have 2 server for backup at different location so if this incidence happen at one location the data can be regain form another location.
